Greater Seattle Youth Bowling

This site is dedicated to the youth bowlers in the Greater Seattle region. It is intended to provide information about organized bowling events for boys and girls ages four to twenty-one. These events may be leagues sponsored by the participating bowling centers solely for youth bowlers, traveling leagues which bowl at various bowling centers during the season, high school leagues, and tournaments held at the local and state levels.

Most bowling centers have league programs for its youth bowlers. These leagues are generally held on Saturday mornings and are open to all boys and girls from age six to twenty-one. No experience is necessary. Each league is usually divided into divisions based on either the age of the bowler, or their averages. Coaches and certified instructors are usually available to assist the youth bowlers in learning the basics of bowling, and ensuring that everyone is having fun.

Contact your nearest bowling center for more information on their youth bowling programs or contact the Association for help in deciding which program would be the best for you.

Join a League - Welcome New Bowlers

Have you seen our signs around town? Prior to each league session and at various other times during the year we will have our signs out. We are always looking for new bowlers.

Our leagues are open to all youth bowlers. When a parent or new bowler sends their information into this site, or calls the number listed on our sign, their info or questions will be routed to the most appropriate person. This may be the league secretary at the bowling center closest to the inquirer, or it may be to Frank Moore, the Association Vice President. Our goal is to respond to each inquiry within 2 days or receipt.

The Greater Seattle Bowling Association All-Star teams completed a successful 2011 campaign by winning the girls, boys and men’s divisions at this year’s All-Star Extravaganza held in Cowlitz County on June 4th and 5th.

The girls team won their division in dominate fashion, locking up the title with two baker matches remaining. They won by posting team scores of  1062, 1032, 1022 and 1010 in the match play portion and winning 57 of the possible 70 points. They really exerted their will on the second day of baker when they won 32 of the 35 possible points.

Individual honors were garnered by Leea Haworth, who will be bowling for Robert Morris University in Chicago next year, for girl’s high game and high three game series of 278 and 727.  Leea would tell you there is no I in team because each member contributed. Fourteen year old all-star rookie, Becky Davidson, averaged 171 in match play and contributed 27 strikes in her 56 frames of baker. All-star veteran, Katie Beismann, had a solid two days with a 196 average in match play and 25 strikes in her 56 frames.  All good teams have strong leaders and the two young ladies bowling in their last all-star event were determined to end their multiyear all-star careers as winners. Catherine Rawsthorne, added a 194 average in match play while adding 32 strikes in her 56 frames of baker and seemed to make critical shots every time they were needed. Finally, Correen Lieber, who will also be bowling for Robert Morris next fall, was the team anchor for much of the tournament. She averaged 218 in match play and added a remarkable 38 strikes in her 56 frames while only leaving 4 opens.

Congratulations to the girls, their parents and all of the coaches who helped cultivate these talented bowlers and a further commitment to all of our Junior programs to continue to attract and cultivate our young bowlers.

USBC Youth Program to Make Several Changes

In an effort to provide a more efficient and rewarding system, the United States Bowling Congress will implement several changes in the USBC Youth program starting with the 2009-10 season.

The USBC Board of Directors, based on recommendations by the USBC Youth Committee, approved several major changes to the structure of current USBC Youth programs. As participation in youth sports is on the rise in America, the changes set forth for USBC Youth programs will attract more youth bowlers to participate in certified league play.

The changes will affect how memberships are processed, offer a new short-season membership product, restructure the awards program and lower the maximum age for youth bowlers.

For answers to commonly asked questions regarding these changes, please click here.
